What can I say, a classic

Sue

a favorite of the 20 month old

This is one of the board books that I think will always stay in my library no matter how old my kids get。 Peekaboo flaps, a cute repetitive story and animals - exotic, scary, and cuddly。 This one is well deserving of it's place on many best of lists。 This is one of the board books that I think will always stay in my library no matter how old my kids get。 Peekaboo flaps, a cute repetitive story and animals - exotic, scary, and cuddly。 This one is well deserving of it's place on many best of lists。 。。。more

Emily

Classic lift-the-flap book。

Rosa Blanca

Every animal is “he” further emphasising female as “other” (see “Invisible Women” by Caroline Criado Perez)

Laurie

Cute book with predictable patterns good for little learners。 Because you can preview the animal before lifting the flap, I would say this book is best for 12-18 month olds。

An absolute favorite for every preschooler who has held it in their hands (the one's I've seen, at least)。 They LOVE the flaps and getting to know the story。 An absolute favorite for every preschooler who has held it in their hands (the one's I've seen, at least)。 They LOVE the flaps and getting to know the story。 。。。more

I've read this so many times and whilst I like this book, I still struggle with the notion of not liking an animal or a pet and simply giving it back! My daughter loved this book so much - nothing really left after few weeks of everyday reading。

Annabel Peet

A great book, especially for young children and helping to develop fine motor skills。 Fun and amusing, this book gives children opportunities to guess what animal is hiding behind the flap and explore what would make a good pet。 Great for a range of ages。

Dear Zoo is fun to read and make the different animal sounds。 My 8 month old enjoys playing with the flaps as we turn the pages。

Sandy

The zoo sends all sorts of animals home until they get to the perfect pet。 Yes, it makes no sense。 Yes, you need to have a copy of this at home for your baby and toddler。 Yes, you'll read this over and over and over again。 The zoo sends all sorts of animals home until they get to the perfect pet。 Yes, it makes no sense。 Yes, you need to have a copy of this at home for your baby and toddler。 Yes, you'll read this over and over and over again。 。。。more

Watched a reading of this on YouTube。 Cute book with bold illustrations, simple words and repetition, and fun flaps。 Good for new readers to teach them animals and verbs。

There are certain board books I bought for my girls that I just haven't been able to part with。 I'm glad I decided to keep this one as they are learning to read。 Repetition is a key component in early reading and this combines that with fun。 Who doesn't love describing zoo animals when you're little?? Add the sweet little flaps to reveal each animal and you have reading magic for little people。 There are certain board books I bought for my girls that I just haven't been able to part with。 I'm glad I decided to keep this one as they are learning to read。 Repetition is a key component in early reading and this combines that with fun。 Who doesn't love describing zoo animals when you're little?? Dear Zoo is an adorable light-the-flap book with simple illustrations (and a lot of white space, which actually works well) about different animals that don't quite fit the bill for a child's desired pet。 Elliot has been loving it since he was tiny and still loves it at 16 months Dear Zoo is an adorable light-the-flap book with simple illustrations (and a lot of white space, which actually works well) about different animals that don't quite fit the bill for a child's desired pet。 Elliot has been loving it since he was tiny and still loves it at 16 months 。。。more

One of my favourite books。 I love the big pictures and that the flaps are really easy to open。 It has kept me entertained for months and I haven’t ripped it yet! Stanley (10 months)

Another one of the early precursors to the ‘lift-the-flap’ phenomenon that would sweep throughout the early 80s and remain with us。 As with Where's Spot?, there is an invitation here to interact with hidden animals。 This time though there is a more repetitive refrain and slightly simpler textual sequence alongside alliteration and rhyme。 You would think that having uncovered all the different ‘pets’ for the first time our young reader would have absorbed all the magic and be done with the book's Another one of the early precursors to the ‘lift-the-flap’ phenomenon that would sweep throughout the early 80s and remain with us。 As with Where's Spot?, there is an invitation here to interact with hidden animals。 This time though there is a more repetitive refrain and slightly simpler textual sequence alongside alliteration and rhyme。 You would think that having uncovered all the different ‘pets’ for the first time our young reader would have absorbed all the magic and be done with the book's 'trick' but this has never been the case in my experience。 Children will happily return and enjoy the reveal whether it is because of the delight of knowing or the comfort that comes with control I'll never know。 For me, I always enjoyed the comical absurdity of it all。 A Zoo sending a child a lion or a crocodile as a present is as silly as it is funny and young readers take delight in this too。 。。。more

I did not like the story in the beginning but my baby just loves the book and we read it everyday。The flaps are quite resistant which was a nice surprise。

Molly

Interactive book for EYFS

Michelle (MichelleReadsYA)

This one is really cute and the flaps seem really secure so my toddler won’t rip them apart so easily。

Whitney Vestal

We love this one! The flaps are super fun!

Charlotte Whiting

This is a fun, easy to follow interactive picture book for young children。 Children enjoy lifting the flaps of the book, with colourful pictures and a lovely story。 This book has plenty of opportunities for discussions, and can be used in the classroom effectively。

Fantastic text construction。。。 and prediction skills are enhanced 。。。as the "lift the flaps" give "just a hint" of the "not so suitable" animals the zoo sends a little person。 A favourite all time book which toddlers and all young children love, and ask repeatedly for, alike。 Fantastic text construction。。。 and prediction skills are enhanced 。。。as the "lift the flaps" give "just a hint" of the "not so suitable" animals the zoo sends a little person。 A favourite all time book which toddlers and all young children love, and ask repeatedly for, alike。 。。。more

I read this book to the second graders at the elementary school I work at in Japan and it was a hit!

For: animal fans; readers wanting an interactive book about the search for the perfect pet。Possible red flags: flaps could rip fairly easy。

Anum Qassam

Easy pleaser -- lift the flap book with animals? Clearly genius concept。

Hannah Parson

Great for beginner readers as this book makes reading extra fun with suspenseful flaps revealing an animal which the children can guess!
